Choice of the right transfer solution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Choice of the right transfer solution must\ninclude specific assessment of the patient\u2019s medical conditions and autonomy,\nanalysis of the specific transfer operations to be performed, their frequency\nand the environment in which they will take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This process, which is essential in\nensuring choice of the best transfer solution for the patient, should not then\nbe limited simply to introducing its use. The highly specific aspects of its\napplication mean that the conditions of the patient and the related risks in\nuse should be re-assessed regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In this article, we would like to\nconcentrate on the characteristics and specific features that should be\nconsidered when choosing a harness, in order to guarantee a safe, dignified and\ncomfortable transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This article is intended as a brief\nreference guide for an informed choice, but does not, under any circumstances,\nreplace a specific assessment by a professional, who should be consulted both\nfor the choice and for definition of the user guidelines for an operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Choice of the harness<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A harness is the most direct interface with\nthe patient. It supports the patient in the delicate phases of movement and\nmust be as comfortable as possible. What makes the difference here is not only\nthe type of support, which can be extended to various parts of the body, but\nalso the position of the patient and the specific characteristics of the fabric\nof the harness itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the selection phase, it is therefore\nessential to assess:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The type of transfer<\/strong> for which the harness will be used.\nHarnesses may be used for transfer from the bed, and therefore from a prone\nposition, to the wheelchair, or to pass the person from one seated position to\nanother, for transfer onto the toilet or to take them from a sitting to a\nstanding position, using a lifter or stander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The medical conditions of the patient<\/strong>, which must be assessed taking into\nconsideration their functional capacities, their ability to sit, hold up their\nhead and neck, the conditions of their skin, their muscle tone, weight and height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The patient\u2019s comfort<\/strong>, which must be assessed considering their\nspecific pathology or condition. It is also necessary to consider the areas of\nthe body where the patient feels pain and\/or the medical equipment used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The devices with which the harness\ninterfaces, <\/strong>meaning the\nsling and the lifter adopted when used, in order to ensure they are compatible\nbeforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The types of harness:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The harnesses are designed down to the\nsmallest detail to assist the operator in correct positioning and easy movement\nof the patient. They may be made of mesh fabric, which is both sturdy and\nbreathable, necessary in the case of contact with water, or in fabric, to\nguarantee easy sliding. They have padding in the most sensitive points and a\nsturdy tape, or belt, stitched continuously around the entire perimeter of the\nharness. This ensures that the harness is sturdy, hard-wearing and comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There are handles on the back of the\nharness to assist in correct positioning and movement of the patient. Attention\nhas been focused particularly on the movement phase and traction can be adjusted\nprecisely in several points, namely the pelvic area and the back and, on the\nmodels with a headrest, at the head. They are made of Strongtex, a fabric that is both extremely strong and highly breathable and quick-drying in the case of contact with water. They have reinforced and padded support in the underarm area. Available in a version with or without a headrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These harnesses are designed specifically for people who have had either one or both\nlower limbs amputated. They support the trunk and legs, but also allow good\nindependent control of the patient\u2019s neck and head. The patient remains in an\nerect and seated position during transfer and they are suitable for transfer\nfrom one seated position to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These harnesses are designed for use with a\nstander.
