The process that precedes putting a Moretti SpA product onto the market involves a number of company divisions, that work together and focus their attentions on creating a product for the market which has a distinctive quality and is perfectly functional, user-friendly and highly robust.
Roberta Teri, Head of R&D who on a day-to-day basis coordinates this intricate process that gives life to every new product describes it all to us.
With many years of experience behind her, Roberta firstly gathers all the requests and suggestions that the Sales Division has gained from its customers. This operation involves listening and validation and includes a fundamental phase of discussion over the proposals and ideas gathered directly from the market analyses conducted by the Research Division.
At this stage the two departments work hand-in-hand in order to establish at the outset whether it is more advantageous to find the product on the market or to produce it in-house. They then proceed with elaborating a project and a feasibility analysis followed by drawings and a prototype that will be validated by the Heads of Production.
Moretti SpA can boast excellent manufacturing skills mainly in the field of metal engineering and prefers in-house production solutions whenever its own expertise can succeed in creating high, added-value features that are capable, for example, of improving product performance in terms of functionality, practical handling and lightness etc.
Conversely, whenever the feasibility studies and market analysis seem to suggest that the product will be sustainable only if its production is outsourced, the process moves over to searching for the most suitable supplier.
Roberta emphasises here the severity of the company’s selection procedures and its ongoing commitment towards preferring Italian suppliers and its subsequent recourse to EU and non-EU manufacturers only when Italian companies cannot offer the required expertise and production systems.
The selection process involves the analysis of various criteria that include specific certifications, the availability of selected machinery, production capacities in terms of volumes and schedules and the willingness to customise the process whenever Moretti deems it appropriate to modify the production procedure.
The selection includes a personal visit to the company, even when production takes place in the Far East, and also a specific investigation audit. This is followed by an assessment of the proposals drawn up by each potential supplier, conducted in collaboration with the Sales Division.
The chosen supplier is then validated only after the successful completion of tests on the prototype as regards its quality, durability, ease of assembly and manageability. If the tests go well, then production of the first batch gets underway, which will also be under the additional direct control of Moretti staff.
So Roberta describes what is rather a complex process, where her role as Coordinator often involves her in focussing her attention on product quality, diversification and innovation so as to associate the Moretti trademark only with products that can ensure high added value.
